I have been practicing as a clinical naturopath and herbalist since 2008. In this time I have worked with many women who are stressed and overwhelmed, trying to juggle their personal wellbeing, career, friendships and families and this long term stress and busy-ness had started to affect their physical health and emotional well-being. During my 11+ years practicing Naturopathy, I have found that Naturopathy works really well for women's health issues and family healthcare. I love it when a few basic diet strategies and a simple herbal medicine plan give the women I work with more energy and far greater emotional and hormonal health. My patients come to see me, most commonly, because they are tired, worried, not sleeping well, experiencing some hormonal changes or want support for their kids. I just love how well childhood illness respond to herbal medicine. My particular interest is working with women and children, and I have undergone extra studies and achieve great results in the areas of digestive and hormonal health as well as anxiety, allergies and energy. I also have a specific interest in working with women to achieve your fertility and pregnancy outcomes and have designed specific programs to take you all the way through your pregnancy journey. When you have an appointment with me, you can expect to gain better understanding of your health concern and how we will work together to achieve your health goal.
In clinic I place a strong emphasis on dietary analysis, which will encourage and educate you to use the food you eat everyday as your medicine. I love creating personalised programs that motivate you to make better health choices, to fit within your own unique lifestyle. As a clinically trained Naturopath I am able to understand, interperate and explain any of your pathology results as well as drug/herb interactions and can easily make a treatment plan to allow you to use natural medicines along side your current medical prescription. If warranted I can also help to create a plan to reduce any long term side effects your medications may cause.
In Wangaratta I have a strong referral network with other allied health, medical and natural medicine practitioners. If another modality such as general medicine, osteopathy or counseling is required, I will refer you to the appropriate practitioner. Whatever it takes to get you feeling better.
After completing a 4 year Health Science and Naturopathy degree, I found that Naturopathy had a lot to offer regional communities and have been inspired by clinical practice in country Victoria ever since. Moving ‘home’ to Wangaratta has been a great decision and I am enjoying working and living in the beautiful North East again.
Outside of work I am a mum and with my family love to explore the great outdoors on bike, skis/snowboard or feet. I love to travel and explore new cultures and find it easy to enjoy life surrounded by good food, friends and music.
Community education: Sophie is passionate about community education and improving health outcomes in regional communities. Sophie enjoys presenting to community groups, contributing health articles and recipes to local newspapers, school and community newsletters. "As a herbalist and herbal tea curator I really enjoy experimenting with herbal medicines and kitchen herbs in a fun and dynamic ways. I love running DIY workshops and when I prescribe recipes, meditations, stretches and home remedies for my clients in workshops, it's because I use them and find them beneficial too."
